Hello, my name is Emily
and I'm actually a high school Home Ec/Hospitality teacher. I threw in the proverbial tea towel when I started my maternity leave with my first child and now, with two kids under three. I won't be returning fulltime for another year.
I created Salty Basket Co to give me the opportunity to practice my skills and share my creativity with others while maintaining some currency in the food industry.
What started as just some grazing boxes here and there, my business has changed direction as I spend more time baking and decorating cookies and cupcakes.
I thought that baking my own branded sugar cookies for my grazing boxes would be a little bougie, but my mind snowballed from there as I scrolled Instagram and Pinterest for weeks afterward. I decided that I too could give this cookie decorating thing a go. It's safe to say I have found my niche. I've had the opportunity now to create some sets for people that I absolutely love, especially when I can't be there for those events. The change has also helped me to manage my business hours around the kids, have a hobby outside of #mumlife and relief teaching in between.
Just to give you a little background on how I ended up here, in order for me to become a Home Ec/ Hospitality Teacher I had to complete Cert I in Hospitality, Cert II in Kitchen Operations and a Food Safety Supervisor Course.
